DiGiCo Quantum 638: Familiar by Design, Quantum by Nature

The Quantum638 takes the best of DiGiCo's time-tested SD7 and SD5 and pairs it with current Quantum technology. The layout will feel like home to any SD7 operator, with gain and trim encoders at the top of each channel strip and individually assignable Next buttons. The footprint is nearly identical to an SD7, but there is far more processing underneath. Built for theatre, touring, festivals, broadcast, installs and houses of worship.

Channel Count and Architecture

Up to 256 input channels, 128 aux/sub-group busses (mono, stereo, LCR or 5.1) and a 48 x 48 full processing matrix. Master busses can run as LR, LCR, LCRS or 5.1. There are 36 control groups (VCA-style, moving fader or mute group) and two solo busses.

Surface and Displays

Three 17-inch high-brightness, high-resolution touchscreens sit across the surface, backed by three 6.8-inch touchscreens and three 14-inch meterbridge screens. Fader control comes from 38 x 100mm and 12 x 60mm touch-sensitive motorised faders, with 53 full-colour 1.3-inch TFT displays for instant channel feedback.

Quantum Processing

Five large-scale FPGAs power the console in single or dual engine configuration. That delivers 566 dynamic EQs, 438 DiGiTubes, 64 Mustard Processing strips, 16 mono or 8 stereo Spice Rack slots, 128 nodal processors, 32 x 32-band graphic EQs and up to 48 stereo FX, including floating point reverbs, delays, choruses, pitch shifters and enhancers. fourier integration is fitted as standard.

Redundancy

Two internal removable engines and two internal hot-swappable power supplies keep the show running. The console can operate in single engine mode as a fallback.

I/O and Connectivity

Local I/O includes 8 Stadius 32-bit analogue inputs, 8 Stadius 32-bit analogue outputs and 8 bit-perfect AES I/O. Eight MADI ports on BNC run at 48kHz, or as four redundant MADI I/O at full channel count at 96kHz. One Optocore fibre loop carries 504 channels of audio and up to 14 DiGiCo racks, with a dual loop upgrade available for 1,008 channels and 28 racks. Four dedicated DMI slots (two per engine) each provide 48 x 48 I/O. GPIO is on a DSub37, with external sync via wordclock, AES, MADI or Optocore.

Audio Performance

48kHz and 96kHz sample rates, 32-bit converters and up to 40-bit floating point internal processing.

Channel Processing

Every input channel supports analogue gain (-20 to +60dB), digital trim (-40 to +40dB), phase reverse, delay up to 1.3s, DiGiTube emulation, HPF and LPF (24dB/Oct), 4-band parametric or dynamic EQ, two dynamics processors (single or 3-band multiband compressor or de-esser, plus gate, ducker or compressor), two insert points and direct outputs. Aux, group and matrix outputs add 8-band EQ (4 parametric plus 4 parametric or dynamic) with the same dynamics options.

Mustard Processing

Mustard strips add tube and amp preamp models, a 4-band EQ with 4th order HPF and LPF, and classic dynamics: Classic VCA, Vintage VCA, Optical compressor and FET limiter, plus gate and ducker.

Quantum638T for Theatre

The Quantum638T version adds a dedicated theatre toolset in the same platform: Auto Update, Aliases, Players, advanced control group programming and Matrix Nodal Delays. Built for musicals, plays and theatrical tours.

Compatible DMI Options

Supported DMI cards include ADC, AES, AMM, AVB, DAC, Dante 64@96, Hydra 2, KLANG, MADI B, MADI C, ME, Mic and Waves, offering complete system expandability.

Dimensions and Weight

1555mm (W) x 957mm (D) x 535mm (H). 93kg.

Flight cases sold separately.
